Ways To Get Around The Island
Taxis

There are taxi ranks in all of the main towns. Fares are displayed so that you can be sure of what you should be paying.  The Taxis are all white in colour. Look out for the green light which when illuminated lets you know that the driver will stop when flagged down. In fact, when the rank is quiet the cabs tend to drive round looking for a fare. You may have to be patient in peak season at the airport. Don't expect stimulating conversation as many drivers speak limited English.

Water Taxis
If you don't fancy a stroll around the bay, for a couple of Euros you can ride across in a water taxi. This is a great and relaxing way of getting around the island and also a simple way of reaching the many beaches on the island.

Buses

You can travel round the Island by Bus for just a few Euros. It’s handy to know that you can reach most places from Ibiza Town so why not combine your trip with a visit to the Capital. Before boarding the Bus, you need to buy a ticket at the nearby kiosk. Don't get upset if locals occasionally jump the queue they feel that they have this right because the Island is their home. You're on holiday so . . . chill.

Hire Cars

Hire companies operate throughout the Island with most based at or the Airport or linked by a courtesy bus. If you want your hire to be hassle free I recommend that you pay the extra for Collision Damage Waiver and also insure your excess.

Tip
Some companies charge you extra for air conditioning when all cars have it anyway.
In addition, when you are travelling outside the peak season you may want to rent the smallest car that will accommodate you and say no to a charged upgrade. Quite often, they have no small cars available and you get an upgrade free. Last May I ordered a Ford Ka and ended up with a 1.6 VW Golf Di at no extra cost.

Bicycle Hire

The best place to hire bikes is on Formentera. Take a day trip to this beautiful nearby Island by boat. You can hire a bike for about 10 euros. Take the beach road which is car free (there are some mopeds) and very flat and cycle between the salt flats and the beaches.  Check out the expensive motor yachts anchored just offshore.  Beware, though, the beaches along here are favoured by nudists so don't say I didn't warn you.
